  19. ･ JLK 1.2 recommended for JLK 1.0 and JLK 1.1 Users:
  20. JLK 1.2 will be available in Spring '95. In addition to the new fully
  21. GX-compatible fonts, it also will include an improved input method -- the same
  22. technologies that we are shipping in Japan today, in KanjiTalk 7.5. If you are
  23. using System 7.5 and JLK 1.0 and 1.1, we recommend that you upgrade to JLKﾊ1.2.

  26. available.

  28. ･ What you can do today ﾐ upgraded components available online:
  29. If you are using JLK 1.0 or 1.1 with System 7.5, you may find some
  30. incompatibilities in certain situations, especially if you have QuickDraw GX
  31. installed. While Apple is in the process of finalizing the Japanese Language
  32. Kit, version 1.2, we have created a limited set of files that will enable you
  33. to work effectively with your Japanese Language Kit (version 1.0 and 1.1) and
  34. System 7.5 today.

  36. These updated files will improve the functionality of both JLK 1.0 and 1.1, and
  37. will also make it possible to use the JLK with QuickDraw GX technology.

  57. Installation of updated components:
  58. If you are also using the Chinese Language Kit, and have already used the
  59. Chinese Language Kit 7.5 Updater v 1.1.1, you do not need to install these
  60. files. The same components that update the Japanese Language Kit were included
  61. in the Chinese Language Kit 7.5 Updater.

  63. If you are only using the Japanese Language Kit, follow these steps AFTER you
  64. have installed the Japanese Language Kit 1.0 or 1.1 software. To install the
  65. updated files, do the following:
  66.  
  67. ･ﾊDownload the JLK Updater files to your hard drive.
  68. ･ Select all files in the file folder by choosing Command-A, or by
  69. Shift-Clicking each file.
  70. ･ Drag the files to the active Macintosh System Folder (where JLK has already
  71. been installed).
  72. ･ The files will be placed in the correct folders, automatically replacing the
  73. outdated files.
  74. ･ Restart your Macintosh.

  76. NOTE: If you place the files in a System Folder that is not currently your
  77. active System Folder, the files will not be automatically placed in the right
  78. folders. Therefore, you will need to open the System Folder and place all four
  79. pieces manually into the extensions folder.

  81. For Performa Users:
  82. If you have a Macintosh Performa, you may experience difficulties installing
  83. the JLK. If this is the case, do the following:
  84. ･ﾊRemove the "Launcher" file from the active System Folder (Drag the "Launcher"
  85. to another folder while the Language Kit is being installed)
  86. ･ Restart your Macintosh
  87. ･ Install the Japanese or Chinese Language Kit
  88. ･ﾊDrag the Launcher back into your System Folder
  89.  
  90. System Requirements:
  91. To install the updated JLK components on the Japanese Language Kit, you need
  92. the following:
  93.  
  94. ･ Macintosh System 7.5
  95.  
  96. ･ 8 MB of  random-access memory  (RAM) recommended for System 7.5 plus the
  97. Japanese Language Kit;
  98.  
  99. ･ 12 or more MB of RAM recommended for System 7.5, plus QuickDraw GX and/or
  100. PowerTalk, and the Japanese Language Kit.

  102. Difficulties that you may encounter until JLK 1.2 becomes available in spring
  103. '95.:
  104.  
  105. ･ﾊThough you can use JLK while GX is installed, GX functionality will not be
  106. available to Japanese characters. (This feature will be added in the upcoming
  107. JLK 1.2 revision).
  108.  
  109. Printing to PostScript printers (LWII NTX,LWII NTX-J, LW Pro 600) when GX is
  110. installed may cause some problems including PostScript errors and lower quality
  111. bit mapped printouts.
